a patriotic pillow, a slew of projects & a podcast!

july 2023

happy july, dearies!

wishing you a safe and festive fourth of july celebration this week. and for your consideration, may i present this one-of-a-kind, "stars, stripes & sparkle" accent pillow!

this overstuffed 18 inch x 13 inch american flag is adorned with beautiful vintage buttons, laces and fabrics. the back is a soft damask denim. this pillow will look wonderful not only for memorial day, fourth of july and labor day remembrances, but also to show off your patriotic american pride all year long.  i'm offering it for a special price through the month of july! click here for more details and a reminder, i always include beautiful packaging and provide complimentary courier delivery within fountain hills and select surrounding. or for those outside of the delivery area, choose free shipping within the u.s.a.

now, BIG NEWS: i'm so excited to share with all of you that i participated in a podcast with the fountain hills chamber, fountain cast, back at the end of may!

this was my first time doing a podcast, if you can believe it. it was so much fun, and while we didn't have that long to chat, i managed to cover a lot about all things darling dearie. it was also an enjoyable way to show off many of the items available on my online boutique and share in more detail about how and why they came about.

i invite you to click the link here, or the image above, to check it out! (the video is also available to watch on my website, too...)

side note, the blossom dearie song i mention (yet bungle) in my excitement is "figure eight" from the glorious schoolhouse rock animated series. enjoy the nostalgia here!

summer 2023, if one goes by the fountain hills school calendar, is shockingly half over. however, last month i managed to bang out several projects on my never ending to-do list including creating this wool felt and hand embroidered brooch, "havasu," created specifically for auction during the upcoming fearless kitty rescue "wet your whiskers" fundraiser this october.

the real "havasu"(above right) is a well-known fickle feline to kittyville volunteers for the past three years, as the infamous-long-time-free-roaming-fella who only just recently found his forever home with the rescue's operations manager. it's really true what they say, you don't choose the cat, the cat chooses you, even if it takes a year and a half to wear down your future adopters resistance.

and in yet another sewing adventure, i just completed a fun baby doll-style dress for my oldest, repurposing a retired yet beloved duvet cover. like i mention in the podcast, i love to create with vintage sheets and this dress is another wonderful example of doing just that.

and finally, i've been painting strategic exterior walls on our property, taking full-advantage of the unusually mild spring and early summer weather this year.

was it imperative that i paint these walls?

no. but those who know me well know i'm very, very happy when i have a shorty paint brush in hand. (yes, i painted all of these surfaces with shorty paint brushes, it's my favorite and preferred way!).

i'm very fortunate that mr. dearie 100% encourages my artistic endeavors around our home and is undaunted when i announce plans for what many would consider an audacious idea. our previous homes had colorful rooms and exterior walls, so his response was a good-natured, "i wondered how long before you needed color, again!"

lastly, at the end of may i participated in a fun card making class hosted by local fountain hills dearie, rose hanford.

rose offers these super fun and creatively satisfying afternoons about once a month from her beautiful home where you get to make new friends and take home three fun cards you've made.

if you're local and want to join her mailing list for future class offerings, please email me (darling@darlingdearie.com) and i'll be happy to get you connected to her.

until my next missive, happy fourth of july, everyone!

xo,

darling
